(Morning Star, Wednesday September 17 2008) Exactly 35 years after a CIA-orchestrated coup brought down Salvador
Allende's socialist government in Chile, the political climate in Latin
America is boiling over and now threatens to explode.
On September the 13th at 4pm, la Societé Bolivarienne du Québec (SBQ)
held a general assembly to finalize the plans for a fusion with Hands
Off Venezuela Montreal (HOV). Over 20 activists were present at this historic meeting to unite two of the best Latin American solidarity groups in Montreal.
Reacting to the expulsion of its ambassador to Venezuela, the Bush
administration attempted to retaliate by expelling the already
withdrawn Venezuelan ambassador to the U.S.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez confirmed that several people have
been detained for suspected involvement in a recently foiled plot to
assassinate him and to take over federal government buildings.
Today (12 September 2008), the Hands
Off Venezuela Campaign whole-heartedly condemned the discovered
attempted coup plot in Venezuela.

We have met yesterday, September 10th,
2008, in the Bolívar Hall in London, for the
screening of The Battle of Chile - The
Coup d'État, a documentary on the US-backed terrorism in Chile in 1973.
The meeting voted in favour of sending a message of
internationalist solidarity to Gerardo, Antionio, Ramón, Fernando and René, for
the 10th anniversary of their arrest.
