- 01 February 2008
Caracas, Jan 31 (ABN).- The Government of the
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will execute the Law against Hoarding
and Speculation for those businessmen trying to create an irregular
situation with the food chain products.
The statements were made this Thursday by the Vice-president of the
Republic, Ramón Carrizales, after a private meeting with National
Assembly deputies, as well as the Minister of the People's Power for
Interior and Justice, Ramón Rodríguez Chacín.
He said it was a short but productive meeting, “where we talked
about the reform of the Executive Oredr Law against Hoarding and
Speculation, where it is established severe sanctions for those that
fraudulently rig supply controls”.
Carrizales pointed out that a People's Supply Commission was
created to be in charge of the execution of this law, which will be led
by the Ministry of the People's Power for Light Industries and
Commerce.
Regarding the immediate measure to be applied in order to solve the
situation, he stated that the first step has been to attack those
people hoarding food products trying to get an artificial increase in
their prices.
The Vice-president also stressed that Government is making easier
for those people importing products that are not produced in the
country and looking for a solution to some deficiencies at the
agricultural sector.
Regarding the situation at the border, Carrizales said that big
storage warehouses are being used for hoarding purposes, especially at
San Antonio del Táchira (Venezuelan city at the border with Colombia).
“There is not a real shortage. It is something created artificially to make people nervous”.
Carrizales assured that food products seized at the borders are
being distributed in the region and they have been distributed at
places where the people can get them.
“People can not allow others manipulate them with this perverse tendency of frighten consumers to generate fear”, he said.
